Eight V-day Gifts for Your Favorite Writer

Hey guys, I was just reading a great article on The Write Life about gifts to get your writer friends that aren’t just a boring notepad. Not that notepads are boring, I probably have more of those than anything!

Click on the link above if you want to read the entire article, but I just wanted to share a couple of my favs from the list, from my perspective as a writer.

  1. Fingerless gloves– Our fingers get so cold, let me tell you! These are the number one gift in my book. I tried to make myself a pair by buying a cheap pair of gloves and cutting the fingertips off. They are fraying already of course. 🤣
  2. Adult coloring books for writers– Evidently, there are coloring books made specifically for writers. I love to color -who doesn’t?
  3. Noise-cancelling headphones-these are a game changer! I have ear buds, but sometimes wearing them for extended time hurts my ears.
  4. Comfy pajamas– In case you decide clothes are for the birds.
  5. Clever coffee mugs with cute sayings like “Write Epic Shit” 🤣🤣
  6. Writer bookends– Writers are huge readers, so these cute bookends surround their stack of books in style!
  7. Adjustable foot rest-When not using my transcription pedal, this would be so nice to have to ease the pain of sitting so long.
  8. Rocketbook reusable notebook-I should have made this number one! I have so many notebooks, pads, and folders full of papers, this would be perfect! I am so unorganized, maybe this is the answer to my organization prayers!

There is so many more great gift ideas, but these were my favs. Almost anything you can think of has a design or shape just for writers. Cups, pens, software, books, even a caddy that goes across the tub so you can read while you soak! Genius! I hope I’ve given you some ideas and if you want more, just click on the link and see what else is available, like this cute Banaagrams game from Amazon!

WOD Challenge 02-10-21 Cold Persistence

Well, it’s cold here and it’s going to get really cold soon! As in low in the single digits! That is unusual for my neck of the woods hills.

The word persistent applies to me this cold and dreary day, as in, I am still slogging through my course because I am determined to finish it so I can get some paying work!

I am persistent in getting through my Spanish course so I can not only read it, but habla it is well.

My progress on Duolingo

I am persistent because I want to write on another pub on Medium, so I asked why I hadn’t been added as a writer yet.

Yesterday, I could not be more persistent as I tried to find my medication at a lower/discounted price. I lost on that one. Seems my insurance says we have to have met our deductible to get the lowest rates on our prescriptions. 😦 Since we are well, thank God, that will be a long time coming. So I have to suck it up or relent and just take Tylenol. I think I’ll suck it up because even with a nasty side effect or two, this medicine is helping my arthritis, I’d really like to keep it that way. I even tried GoodRX but no dice there either. They are the same or more than my insurance.

Well, stay warm and be careful, wherever you are in the world. Peace out!

Wod Challenge 02-09-21

Most of you know I’m reading and watching the Outlander series. I’m on the second book called Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon, and Jamie has been in the company of Prince Charles Stuart who is known for mollynogging, even though the jury is still out on his sexual orientation. Jamie is only hanging around with him to get secrets and hopefully prevent him from becoming King, which he does not deserve to be. Still, as beautiful as Claire, his wife is, the ladies at Madame Elise’s are very persuasive and keep trying to tempt him to stray.

If you enjoy historical romance and time travel novels, this one’s for you!

WOD Challenge 02-08-21 Internal

I think there is something going on with my internal organs. I have — let’s see how to put this delicately— had some gastric distress the past couple of days though I’m not sure why. I don’t ever take anything unless it becomes much worse, I just let it run its natural course.

Sorry my other post on the Super Bowl was late, I forgot to get a picture of my sausage balls and didn’t remember to do it until this morning. They were not the hit I’d hoped for, but then again, there was an enormous amount of food there. Ribs, corn casserole, sausage, potato salad, chips and dips, plus every kind of dessert you can think of except cheesecake. There was only about 10 people there. This was my view:

Gary built this nice fire pit wall that keeps you nice and toasty, even on cold nights. He also put up plastic around his outdoor patio which helped hold the heat in. That’s his ginormous dog, Chance, who was eating our rib bones like they were crackers! I’d hate to think what that does to his internal organs!!

Peace out, y’all!

WOD Challenge 02-07-21 Super Bowl Sunday

I just finished watching our church service and now I’m watching the Puppy Bowl Pre-game Show as I write this. Today’s Word of the Day Challenge word is “Bloom.”

Well, I can safely say nothing in my yard is blooming but the weeds, however, we are leaving them right now because I read somewhere that the honeybees need the weeds and their flowers for life-sustaining food and sustenance.

I am making sausage balls for the Super Bowl Party we are going to and yes, they contain almond flour, but no- they don’t contain yeast; another thing that blooms. In fact, they are very simple and today’s recipe uses our very own home made breakfast sausage, almond flour, eggs, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix well, roll into balls and bake in the 375 degree oven for 20-25 minutes.

I long to plant some flowers or something but bad weather is in the forecast, so I am holding off. I priced some ornamental cabbage for my mailbox planters and they plus fill-in flowers were too expensive, another reason to wait a bit.

I hope you all have a terrific, safe, Superbowl Sunday and that your favorite team wins…as long as you pick the Chiefs. HAHA just kidding!

Who has money riding on the game? Who could care less about the game? If we weren’t going to a party, I probably wouldn’t even care about it, but with a few friends I will happily support my pick and root loudly (especially if it irritates my opposition, lol) because that’s what makes it fun!
