What a lovely place we picked for our overnight in Wildersville, Tn. We are at Parker’s Crossing, a historic place during Civil War. It would have been nice to spend a couple of nights here so we could have explored the most famous battlefield.

Common Misconceptions

I’ve been wondering what people think RVing is like once you are on the road to your destination. So let me tell you what you might or might not know.

1. One cannot cook in the motor home when it’s moving. Lucy was brave for trying, but anyone who’s seen The Long, Long Trailer knows what I’m talking about.
2. One cannot watch tv while the vehicle is moving. There are three TVs (one totally unnecessary one at the front) and that would be a distraction, don’t you think?
3. It is not always the cheapest way to live. Especially if you don’t boondock. Sure, you don’t have a mortgage, but RV parks aren’t always cheap, and these days, neither is eating out, groceries, gas/diesel, propane, etc. We use gas apps when they work, but it’s pennies per gal. off. Not much help with 100 gallon tanks.
4. When the generator decides not to work, you cannot power anything while driving. That means conserving phone usage, iPads, e-cigs or any other electronic thing you might need. Ours is not working right now, so we have to be hooked up to shore power to charge anything.
   
5. The furniture is not comfortable, especially the mattress. Most people replace that first thing. The couch that has a bed inside is horrid. That gets replaced when we have time and money. My back is constantly hurting. Dave and I switch off sitting on the couch and the swivel chair. Tonight, I’m trying the dinette seat, but I’ll probably regret it too.

Tomorrow we head to another town in Tennessee-Lenoir City, and our campground is Soaring Eagle on Buttermilk Rd. I have high expectations it will be as lovely if not more than this one. Then Sunday we arrive in Waynesville, NC where I finally get to meet Anne Mehrling!! I’m beyond stoked about it because we get a whole week to visit! I’m so looking forward to it.

We haven’t planned what’s after yet, all I know for sure is we will need to be in Florida by Dec 1. We want to see places on the N. Carlina coast, S. Carolina coast (especially Edisto Island because of C. Hope Clark’s famous novels) and my oldest half sister in Alabama. But we will see where the road takes us. That’s part of the fun!
