We Missed the Show

I was sad to see that we were a tad late for optimal leaf peeping season. You can still see the faded colors of some of the trees, and tell that it must have been spectacular.

Lots of curvy roads and climbing and descending hills.

We crossed the Cumberland Plateau and landed at the Soaring Eagle RV Park, not far from Knoxville. We are also close to the Great Smoky Mts. National Park. We won’t see any of that because tomorrow we will want to hurry up and get to Waynesville! Maybe some day we will make our way back. We aren’t young studs who set up for one night, unhook the Jeep and bikes and go exploring. That is reserved for longer stays like next week.

You can see how hilly it is on our way to our current location.
Going downhill here.

As we were “comin down the mountain”, we saw these enormous stacks to TBA Kingston Fossil Plant. It’s an electric generation plant. Had I been able to open the camera on my iPad in time, this would have been a more impressive.

You can’t see the enormity of the stacks, as we were already passing it, but coming around the mountain it looked colossal!

Now we are here at Soaring Eagle and I had to take a picture of us coming down the stairs that go to the office/store/laundry. They really pack em in here, but we were glad to get a flat site and not one up the mountain side!

They have 110 sites here, most of which are in the hills.

Dave had the boxed pizza and ice, and I was trusted to carry my Dr. Pepper 0’s. I don’t do stairs as well as I used to. Stupid knees. I was hankering for an adult root beer float, but there was no diet root beer, so I got Dr Pepper 0. It worked fine!

Dave took the dogs for a walk and said from up the hill I can still see some colors, so tomorrow I’ll try to capture better shots before we leave. 😊

  3. I love the mountains here in all seasons. Granted, the leaves have faded or fallen, but the mountains don’t shrink.

  4. I hope you got to see some pretty colors after all. 🙂 When we ventured up to Traverse City last weekend, we had missed the pretty Fall colors by a week, my sister told me.

    1. Yes! I could still see bright ones among the faded ones, so all was not lost!
