The Sunday Message

Hi everyone!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how to better my relationship with God. As I watched our church service at Bear Creek Bible Church, I wondered if I could be a good disciple by performing an act of service.

As such, I’d like to ask your opinion-be it good or bad-of how you would feel about me sharing something that I learned from service each Sunday. Because this morning, I had an epiphany of sorts.

I remember when I told my good friend and hairdresser, Vilma-that we were going to start living in a motor home on the road. The first thing she said to me was that now I had the perfect opportunity to be an evangelist of sorts, by asking people I meet in my travels if they know or want to know God. Well, I agreed, yet I’m not a minister. I’m not even a lay minister. But I can talk, and I talk to you all most every day.

That’s all I’m really saying, I guess. Can I talk to you about something I learned in church today? You let me know, because I can DO that. I can be a messenger through my blog, even if it’s once a week. I know the world is all PC now, and woke and all that. But there is nothing wrong with sharing some good news, right?
And as Pastor John says, that’s pretty much what the Word of God, or the Gospel is. Good news!!

Now that I’ve asked, and I’m counting on you to be honest and tell me, can I share one thing I learned today? That can be my first Sunday Message if you will.

What I Learned Today.

I really understood the passage from Ephesians 4:12 which says, “to equip His people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up.”

It’s pretty much the mission statement at Bear Creek. My brother is a good example of that. He just got back from Reynosa Mexico for the pastor’s conference. He goes to serve (by cooking and serving the meals), not preach, yet he learns a lot and he also goes on mission trips to Mexico to help build houses and churches. He is active in other ways too.

The more I attend, the more I learn, and the more I want to serve in some way…even when I can’t be there.

One more thing I learned was a sad statistic! Here it is: 40% of the world has never heard of the first coming of Jesus!!! Isn’t that sad? Isn’t that so unbelievable??
What’s worse is having a child that knows Him in his heart, yet refuses to acknowledge that. My personal opinion? He is still lost. Still trying to find where he belongs. My husband believes it’s for shock factor, and that may be right too.

I know a lot of folks who will read this and say, “She is getting older, so she wants to make sure she knows God and knows what she needs to do to get into heaven.” Darn tooting I do! But I have known God since I was three. My grandmother made sure of it.

Anyway, sorry that go so long winded, but basically, if you are a believer, you can be a disciple. A follower. A learner. A spreader of the gospel.

That’s all I’m trying to do is be a better disciple. To be a world evangelist. One small message at a time. My act of service. Thank you.

  1. your religion is yours. do what you feel called to do. Just know there will be many times when people do not wish to be asked about their own relationship, or lack thereof, with God. Many will be open, but many will be angry or irritated and downright rude to you. I wish you well my friend.

    1. Thanks, Suze. I fully expect some people to balk at it or leave altogether. I hope and pray that’s not the case, but I’ve felt called to do this for a while. I’m just now getting brave enough to do it no matter what!

  3. That sounds wonderful! No you are not a pastor but you have said yourself that it is not necessary to be able to share the good news! I would love it if you would share and I think that you will surprise yourself by thinking about what you have learned in the process! Because you hit the nail right on the head when you said that this world has become to PC, but why are we worried about what other people think? Whatever you say, leave the rest to God? You never know who you’re exactly going to be discipling to. And if only one person hears and believes it will all be worth it! In my opinion! I am excited to hear what your message is going to be next week?

Same here. However my earliest remembrance of giving my heart to Jesus is when I was 8 years old and in children’s church! I also went to church with my grandmother! I am so grateful that my grandmother gave me and my brother the foundation of knowing Jesus!

    1. He woman! I’m so glad you still read my stuff occasionally and you are so involved! I’m also glad my post struck a nerve with you. I love to help people and if this can help someone, plus teach me in the process, I’m good with it! So cool we are both studying Ephesians. I don’t profess to know my Bible thoroughly, but I need to remedy that. I like the way John teaches and that’s what keeps me coming back each week, even if I can only watch online.
