1. What is/has been your favourite job/occupation?
2. Is there a job you would never consider doing?
3. Did your family own a business and expect you to join the ranks when you got older?
4. Did/do you have a career requiring qualifications or did you learn on the job and work your way up?
My favorite job was actually my career in the medical field, starting with where I worked in Korea when stationed there to the cancer center in Arlington, Tx where I spent the last 15 years of my job. It ended so long ago, I can’t remember the dates, but I’ll never forget the people!
I’d never want to be a plumber. Crawling under houses might have been cool as a kid, but no more!
No, my mom was a stay-at-home mom with a babysitting gig on the side and Dad was an electrical engineer/handyman/electronic repairman who all the neighbor kids thought was the coolest. He could fix anything, he told great stories, he made wine and had other hobbies as well.
Had the Army let me finish my training, I would have become a full-fledge MLT, but I settled for a phoebotomist/medical assistant role and I’m happier for it. For a brief period, I was allowed to do that and perform simple tests in the lab until then Medicare rules changes and required a license. I learned my trade in the service at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio. It was like an intro into Medical Laboratory Technician, but I needed to go back to complete the course and get my certificate. I was stationed at Ft Hood at the time and my superior would not let me go.
Gratitude: It was a blessing that I was such a good “vampire” that my boss at the cancer center hired me on the spot and I had a wonderful career at the cancer center. Sadly, it and she are no longer with us, but she was the best boss ever and also my friend. (tearing up now, gotta go!)
