Mt Hesperus

Yesterday, we loaded up the pups and traveled 15 minutes from Durango, to go up on Mt Hesperus in search of a certain waterfall.

We never found it, and we were 11,500 ft or so up! But the journey was beautiful, fun, and of course, I got some great pics. The dogs didn’t care for the bumpy, I mean bumpy roads, but handled it fine.

We did take them out near a place where others were camping, to see a creek, but there was too much broken glass mixed in with the rocks and gravel. So, that was the only short hike they got to take.

We saw many cabins, and downright beautiful homes way up there-thanks, but no thanks, especially after seeing some of the damage from what looked like a terrible wind storm. There had been some guest cabins there once, but all sustained damage from hundreds of felled trees.

It’s thrilling to be so high that you’re looking down on treetops, yet nerve-wracking when you’re so near the edge, whilst bouncing around over the rocky, unpaved roads. Here’s a few pics of our little adventure.

Nature is so amazing, even in this rocky, wild environment! It’s hard to believe anything grows among all the rocks and giant boulders, some are the size of a car!

I’m not a cold weather person, or I’d find it lovely to have a home in the mountains, but there are so many other dangers. Rock slides, falling trees, heavy snowfall- not a fan of the thought of being snowed-in, falling rocks (boulders) …it’s a seclusion I don’t think I could handle.

Those willing, there were many we saw that were for sale.
Give me the beach, I can leave if a hurricane threatens!

  1. I loved your ending statement — you can leave the beach if a hurricane comes.

The Rockies are a bit too untamed for me. I loved seeing them, but I was so happy to come home to these old Smokies.

I looked back on my old posts, you’re right, the pics I deleted are gone.

  2. I never gave it much thought, but you’re right about the other issues with having a house perched up so high. It is beautiful country , though.

  3. I know some people have set up a new blog when they ran out of free storage space. I’m keeping the photo and video files as small as possible.

    1. I need to study up on what to do about storage space.
Anyway, I hope your phone is less bogged down now. 😌

  4. I found a more thorough cleaner for the phone. I think it found 5 MB more to delete.

      1. Yes, it was free. Two days later I was out of storage space again. I’m trying to avoid using the phone to process videos, but that’s what works best.

      2. I wonder if you take them out of the texts and put them in a file if that would free up space? I’m not sure.

    1. It is, isn’t it? Gods beauty continues to amaze when you look for it! Kids need to get their faces out of their phones and appreciate nature AND humankind, before their generation is doomed. Sorry, kinda got on my soapbox there! 🤣
