Toothache Gone

So a few days ago,Thursday or Friday, I was eating one of those Russells Stover’s sugar-free toffee candies and I bit down on a big piece to break it up. Well, it was kind of sticky, and I remember rocking my teeth side to side to break free. That must have been the moment that it happened. Next crunch, and I felt a crack but nothing hurt. I finished the candy, that I also ended up inhaling a tiny bit and spent ten minutes trying to clear, and thought nothing more of it.

The next day my top back teeth were hurting and throughout the next day or two I pinpointed one tooth that was really hurting. Now it was the weekend, so I’d have to wait til Monday to be seen. (hopefully )

I got so lucky. Not only was I seen, but he decided to pull it because I did indeed break the cap off the post. It can’t be repaired at that point, so extraction was the answer. I related that I was a cash pt. having no insurance, so he decided this was also the most cost effective thing to do.

At first he said they had no time, come back tomorrow, and before I could leave the office, I was to be squeezed in at 2:50. So Dave and I left and he went to eat. I couldn’t eat pizza, but stared at the DQ next door, thinking some ice cream would’ve tasted great. Well, Dave read my mind and took me right over there when he was done with his pizza. I had a medium chocolate sundae, and enjoyed every bite.

Unfortunately, it didn’t like me. Over the next hour I would have severe stomach cramps, and get sick from both ends. In fact, I almost passed out in the dentist’s restroom. When my body settled down, we got ready to go. The injections to numb the area were the worst, and then the force he had to use to get the tooth out was quite intense. The sounds, the pressure, the eventual cracking, then voila! It was out and I felt such relief! I was sent home with wetted gauze to bite on for the next few hours.

“Drink lots of water” she said.

Try drinking water through clenched teeth!

Now that I’m home and resting, there is a new problem…maybe caused by the vomiting yesterday, I don’t know. But if it isn’t better by tomorrow, I’m going to the Dr!

In the meantime, I can’t drink through a straw, vape, suck on anything, and no hard, tough, sticky, or crunchy foods for a few days. Not vaping is the hardest, and I always drink from a straw. Its hard to know what to do with your mouth and your hands.

Reading, writing, and playing games fills the time. I skipped Mahjong today because I’m trying to take it as easy as possible. No lifting weight and nothing forceful to make the clot come loose…I definitely don’t want dry socket!!

Time for lunch; yogurt and peanut butter maybe? That and some Tylenol and I’ll be right as the mail.
