The Sunday Message

Pressing Forward

Based on Philippians 3:7-14

”But whatever gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.”

All we own is to be seen as filthy rags compared to having Christ as our savior.

Most of us own a lot of things. So many things, in fact, that each year we have to purge our inventory and get rid of some of it. But it’s all just stuff. In biblical times, Jesus said to leave your things and follow Him.

Present times, no one thinks of it that way or takes that literally, but what he means is to not place so much worth on your things. We are to hunger for the knowledge found in the word of God above all things.

Having Faith Isn’t Enough

We all are called to mature in our faith, to grow up in other words. Are we training ourselves to excel as Christians or are just standing by and hoping we do well?

Sometimes when I’m talking to you this way I feel like a hypocrite. I am a sponge right now, listening, reading, and absorbing all of the material, but not yet acting from a service point of view. Translating the message into my own words and relating that to you is my only offering at the moment.

Yes, I believe, yes I listen to His word daily, read it, and absorb it, yet I still fail. I’m not diligent in my prayers. I don’t yet know how to talk to Him without selfconciousness. I don’t praise Him enough, I just ask for miracles.

I am, in a sense, treating Him like an acquaintance. I know who he is, but I don’t know Him as well as I should. I’m not nurturing our relationship like a would my best friend, or my favorite person. That, ladies and gentlemen is exactly what we are supposed to do, what we are called to do.

And yet, as we grow and mature in our faith, we are not to look down on those who haven’t yet reached that stage, or who may not be believers. We are to help them in their walk.

We all should take a moment and evaluate where we are with Christ.

We must never plateau, learning about Christ is a life-long endeavor. No matter how many times you read the Bible, you will never know everything there is to know about Christ.

We must strive to attain the full realization of being free from sin, despite probable persecution.

Grow up. Work on perfecting your walk with God. Press on in your journey and I will press on in mine.

Thank you for being here!

Have a blessed Sunday

  1. And this, because we are mere human beings. Failure is evident. But great things come from learning from failing.

    1. Thank you so much, Tre. It’s the truth, we just need to keep on trucking. Fail, get up and try again.

  3. I think you are too hard on yourself! Even though we fail he does not! That’s why he died on the cross, to take away our sins!

    1. I know, but what I meant was no matter how much we learn, there’s always more, and also I’m not doing a service except for my Sunday Message. I know my career was in service, but what about now? Still trying to figure out how to be in service to Him more.
