A Dolores Day

Gotta post quickly while I have Wi-Fi. We are in Dolores!

It’s not remote, but we are down in a cavern-like town and connectivity…sux! No TV, no internet, or spotty at best. And we have a T-Mobile hotspot, yet it won’t hold the connection here. We are between two cliff walls with the Dolores River running through it. Its right behind where our “resort” is located. We took a short walk down to it last night. Wished I had a hammock!

Its going to be a lot more of the outdoors here, unless Dave gets fed up and sets up his brand new-never used yet-satellite. (he might be out there doing it as we speak!

If I lose internet, I may not be able to post as often. Just letting you know how in case that happens. We are going to check out whether we have connectivity in the rec room with the park’s wi-fi.

I’ve talked to Josh and Chris, but not Sean or my Brother yet. I called while I had a moment of connection. Isn’t it weird how married we are to technology that we go into a panic at the thought of losing touch, or being able to keep up with whats going on? Maybe its time then.

Yesterday we got here, set up, went to dinner at Montezuma’s (more on that later), then went to a bait shop, and then for a walk in a nearby park. Met a super nice guy who never stopped taking from start to finish. He had a splendid Doggie DeBordeaux (like the one from Turner & Hooch) who I enjoyed petting. We chatted with him a while. He is Randy and the dog is Frank. He was the loveliest color of rusty orange and had a massive but friendly head.

We rested a bit when we got back, then went for our walk to the river. Dave is itching to get his fishing license and start fly fishing. I took some picks and snagged three river rocks to tumble. Ssshhhh, we aren’t really supposed to do that, but they were small. 😉

There were lovely Adirandak chairs and tables set up riverside near where the cabin visitors stay. You can see from the pics (when they load) that the water is clear and beautiful, but very low here. The rocks are exposed way up both banks. It is August after all.

Speaking of that, the climate is different here. Hot and humid, and although this town is still 6,000ft above sea level, its level ground because we are not up in the Mts. this time. And buggy, very buggy. Gnats, mosquitos, no see-ums, we had em all last night. If we decide to make sitting outside a regular habit here, we are going to have to bathe in OFF!! 🤣

I’m going to attempt to load the pics, but if you can’t see them here, go to my Facebook page and I’m @Kimberly S Smyth. Friend me while you’re there! I post lots of pics.

As I said before, Dolores is a quaint little mountain town with lots to do. Fishing, hiking, camping, rafting, the river, the lake, cute shops and boutiques, rockhounding, guided tours, jeep rentals. We shan’t be bored if we just get out there! Telluride is a popular ski area, that I’m keen to visit. Just want to see what a ski town looks like in the off-season. Exploring the mountains and kayaking the river. Well, I’ve never, but a girl can hope. 😜
