The Sunday Message

Kill or be Killed Proverbs 5:1-23

This message from Solomon to his son is warning him about the adulterous woman.

He wants him to listen to his wisdom and of others who love him since they have “been around the block” so to say.

Not only listen with your ears but apply what you learn.

It mentions “chokmah” -masterful understanding

He warns that wickedness negatively influences others as well as ruining your own life. Make good choices, because we all have a choice in life.

He compares her to wormwood, saying she may smell wonderful, but she has no thought for her own life and he would regret it for the rest of his days. She may lure him saying all the things he wants to hear, but she is a wicked temptress and he should stick to his own wife and live as God wants him to. Only then will he have his reward in Heaven.

  1. Listen to truth in order to avoid sin and destruction. (5: 1-14)

Faith without obedience is dead. Stay in the word of God.

If, for example, your Christian marriage becomes incompatible, seek contentment in the word of God and enter the process f becoming a more mature Christian.

God knows all of your sins and discressions, you cannot hide from Him. This alone should be incentive enough to heed your father’s words of advice. Otherwise you will cry, “why was I disobedient, and why did I spurn instruction?”

He tells him he should stay with his wife and work things out of there comes problems because to do otherwise will cast him in a sea of despair.

2). God’s graces meet our needs, so sin becomes obsolete. (5: 15-23)

Be holy ourselves and kill the urge to be tempted into sin or suffer the consequences and be killed ourselves.

This is a very strongly worded message, but the believer can rest in the fact that if you do sin, you will not lose your salvation, but your heavenly reward may not be as great.

I can speak from experience on mistakes we have made in the past, but we loved each other enough to stay and work it out like God wanted us to. I pray I may be forgiven and that David will too, because we are believers.

He has read the Bible many times, yet his relationship with God is his and mine is mine. I wish we could come together in the word more often, and someday we will. I have read it several times myself, but I feel like now I’m not only reading but studying the word every day.

When he made his mistake, my mother urged me to stay and work it out and I’m so glad I did. Later, I made a mistake but didn’t tell him about it for years. I did not go where he went, but my sin was just as bad in the eyes of the Lord. My prayer is for atonement.

Had we been more faithful and obedient from the beginning of our marriage, these sins would never have happened. These transgressions happened so long ago, I hope that we have been forgiven and still receive mercy and grace from God.

Thank you for being here, for being a good listener and a shoulder for me to occasionally cry on. I appreciate you all, have a blessed day. 🙏💕

  1. You have been fully forgiven. That is what the Bible teaches about God’s grace.

  2. In the Lutheran Church, the congregation has a confessional prayer asking for forgiveness. The pastor then says, “As a called and ordained servant of the word, I announce the grace of God to you that your sins are forgiven.”. I find that very meaningful.
