The Sunday Message

What Are You Doing to These People-Proverbs 10-15

This week’s study is the start of a six-week study on relationships-husbands and wives, parent and child, etc.

Each spouse is called by God to support the other.

He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from God. (18-22)

I. The husband and wife have tremendous influence over the other. ((11-28, 12-14, 14-1, 18-22, 31-40))

”Husbands need to cherish their wives.” (1 Peter 3-7)

Wives need to submit to their husbands.

But husbands should be biblical leaders and students. How can wives submit to their husbands if they aren’t Godly examples?

We need to be determined to show other- centered benevolence to your spouse, even when they aren’t lovable.

“Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children.” (Titus 2-4)

Men need to leave their families and cleave to their wives.

The number one love language for men (after surveying many men, Pastor John added) is words of encouragement.

That was news to me, because I read the book Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus and I never made that connection. Do you know yours? His? Hers?

Our homework was to read Peter 1-4. It basically says if we are obedient to God, we will earn the inheritance saved in heaven for us.

When we honor each other, we are pleasing God.

Women need to talk less and show more action and a positive attitude towards their husbands. Love your husbands like a friend, work as a team, be your husband’s best friend.

II. As parents have control of their children, children can choose to curse or bless their parents.

Discipline doesn’t always mean punishment.

  1. Instruction -Use the right tone of voice
  2. Training -Reinforce certain patterns. Help them develop a desire. Nurture that desire.
  3. Correction -Rewards, timeouts, extinction. (as in you leave when the child throws a tantrum.

Gently use corporal punishment when necessary.

We are also to love and care for our neighbors.
