Afternoon, dear readers! Thanks for joining me as we explore the Sunday Message which is from Beacon Baptist Church in Florida. I watched via live stream which -in Texas- starts at 10am.
Today Pastor Blalock spoke on what it is to be merciful and how to do it with a cheerful heart.
Romans 12:1 -In view of God’s mercy, offer your bodies as a living sacrifices ce, holy and pleasing to God. This is your true and proper worship.
He was saying that we’ve all been given gifts and we shouldn’t be fake with them, but real. If you have been called to prophecy, then prophecy. If a teacher, then teach. A servant should serve. With a happy heart, not expecting anything in return.
Why is important to show mercy with cheer?
Because loving someone in public then berating them in private is a worthless love.
Because that’s what Jesus would do. He loved us and showed us mercy even when we didn’t deserve it. He did not scorn or do it dismissively.
Without God’s word, the world is a broken and barren place.
Do you know that I hardly watch the news anymore? That is how broken the world is, you can’t even trust it. But I trust in God, I know he will keep me safe. What do I need it for then? To stress me out? To make me afraid?
I can learn a lot from today’s message. I do not always give mercy in the proper way.
God’s mercies are new every day. Every day you get a clean slate. How fabulous is that? Yet if you reject Him, woe be to you.
Even dying on the cross, Jesus said, “Forgive them Father for they know not what they do.”
Can we try to remember that when it’s time for us to show mercy?
Let us not be impatient or demanding because those people are not cheerful. And cheerful mercy doesn’t come naturally or easily. Even Jesus was frustrated at times, but he gave his mercy gladly.
As believers, we are called to be patient and cheerful in our mercy.
We have the holy spirit inside of us everywhere we go. That means it is in us to give mercy gladly! Christ died for us while we were yet sinners-thats mercy!
Mercy is not transactional. If your motive is to glorify God, then it feels like a privilege not a burden.
If we knew how truly splendid heaven (eternity) will be, we would gladly suffer forever. I mean, that’s what gets me through the hard days. Knowing what is waiting on the other side makes whatever I’m going through here worth it.
Mercy triumphs over judgement. Don’t be judgmental. No one is perfect.
We shouldn’t extend mercy because we are “told” to do it, we extend mercy because God showed it to us first. Look to the cross!
Thanks for joining me today and can we say a prayer for the people who are still without power due to the storms?
Our Father, please see that the power is turned back on asap and people who need shelter can get it. For all our whining, at least we have heat and a roof over our head. So many don’t, Lord. Look after them and bring them comfort. In your holy name,
Amen.
