The Sunday Message

Before I share my interpretation of the Sunday message, I want to wish all the men out there Happy Father’s Day. It matters not if you have actually fathered anyone. Have you mentored someone, have you done things for a child or a young man? Those are what matters and to each and every one of you I pray 🙏 for peace, hope, and love!

We are still in Colossians, this time 1:9-14

Paul, in sharing in his letter to the Colossians tells them that God wants you to be dominated by His spirit, to ignore false teachings, and to understand that Christ is supreme.

He’s speaking to an audience of one when he tells each of us believers that we should be filled with the holy spirit, be consumed with spiritual wisdom and understanding, and to allow the knowledge of God to change you outwardly.

That we are not born righteous, yet the righteousness is impuded to us by Christ.

That our chief purpose in life is to please God.

How do we please God?

We must bear fruit. We must grow and prosper.

We must do good works.

We must grow in our knowledge.

We must increase our endurance /patience.

We must be thankful for past blessings.

Now that you know all this, continue to reject false teachings, and know that now that you are believers, you are qualified to receive the inheritance of Christ.

Even though you know that your good works aren’t what gets you to heaven, you do them to please God anyway because that’s what a believer does. What good is the knowledge if you don’t go out and share it?

I think he is saying that He wants us to be content in our faith, have peace in our knowledge and love of other people. Have patience with them and grow in our strength and endurance to be up to the challenges that life throws our way.

I pray you all have a blessed Father’s Day Sunday and you celebrate by relaxing somewhere peaceful and just enjoy your special day.
