Yesterday, Dave and I went to the beach around 10:30 am to spend a few hours before the weekend throng arrives, and before it got too hot.
We had to drive down quite aways because so many people were already there and set up. Finally we found a good spot that looked like we might actually enjoy some alone time. We managed to set up the canopy by ourselves and had a nice flat spot with no seaweed!
The waves looked a little flat to me, but weren’t too bad really. The rip current was pulling to the right very hard, so no good float time was going to happen. However, I rode quite a few good waves on the boogie board without having to go to the third sandbar.

Dave even joined me in the water, something he rarely does, and he body surfed while I used the board. We also looked at the many different kinds of crabs which were very plentiful yesterday. Hermit crabs and even those tiny twisty crabs and let them crawl around in our hands. Oh, I wish I’d have taken a pic of the biggest one he found. It filled the center of my palm! About the size of a fifty cent piece. We stayed and played until two-ish, then went home to check on the girls. Good thing, cause one of them had been sick and we had a little mess to clean up. Thank god it wasn’t poop.
This morning, he surprised me with a walk on the beach, but again, we had to drive waaay down the beach to find solitude. We took a good long walk and I took photos of the various jellyfish we spotted. We saw none of these yesterday but we both felt something sting us just a littel several times. They left no lasting marks or pain. Must have just caught a tentacle or two.

These are all nasty man-o-war type jellyfish. If you look at the 3rd pic in the series, you can barely see a second type of jellyfish next to that man-o-war. He is clear with tiger stripes.
You could even see the nast tentacles bunched up next to them. No rocks or shells that weren’t broken were found at all. I’m beginning to think shells are seasonal, because one year we were her later in the summer, there were Sand-dollars were everywhere! Now, it’s very rare to find a whole one.
Earlier this afternoon, with very crappy tools because I forgot to bring my tool bag, I did a couple of wire wrapped polished stones. These don’t look as good as they could if I’d have had the proper tools, but not too bad I guess. I used copper colored wire, but it definitely wasn’t dead soft…yet I was able to bend it pretty easily. Rusty tools helped cut the wire and do the tightest part of the wrap.

I’m not the greatest photographer but hey, you can see the basic concept here. Not sure wether these would look best on a macrame or leather cord, or an antique looking chain for the necklace. Maybe I’ll try both!
