Taken Without Permission

This morning I was horrified to hear this news from my friend, Michelle!

My picture, taken from Facebook

I posted the picture awhile back about getting my first check on a writing assignment. This company (National Disability) then stole it for their advertising purposes without my permission!

I wasn’t sure had to handle it, so I removed it and tried to report it, but there was no button available where there should have been. So frustrating! I feel robbed, mortified, and humiliated.

Dave said it was my fault for posting a picture to social media in the first place, because these kinds of things can happen. However, social media is commonplace these days, so I don’t feel it’s right or fair for someone to misrepresent me. Had they asked my permission, I’d have told them no! So they stole it anyway. How is that right?

How do you feel about this issue? Am I powerless to do anything about it. Am I overreacting? Please leave me a comment and/or a suggestion. I’d appreciate any feedback.

  1. It is robbery in my eyes, but I wouldn’t know what to do about it.

  2. This is just wrong on their part. I would feel exactly the same way as you.

Do they have a phone number on their official website? Maybe you can call them?

  5. Call cooperate and raise hell!!! You can’t legally take someone’s picture and make them the face of an advertisement! That’s so darn wrong!

  7. If you can somehow contact them you can ask/demand they remove it. Unfortunately, pictures on social media platforms are considered public domain and become the property of the outlet.
