Painting Practice

Today’s attempt

It’s a good thing I have a practice pad and I’m new to the techniques, otherwise I’d claim utter failure on this one. I ruined the palm tree, and the more I worked on it, the worse t became. But I do like my water effects, yet they need lots more practice too. My sky is also wrong, but works in an abstract sort of way.

Here is the one I did fr practice last week…did I already share it?

Water and waves turned out way too heavy handed. It would be so helpful if the videos I’m trying to follow, gave the colors needed, as well as what size and brush style to use. I’m having to guess at the colors on some of them.

Anyway, it’s fun and I like the process, but I’m too impatient to learn. Even on the practice pages I expect too much. Yet, I can tell I’m learning a few of the techniques. More practice will help. ☺️

  1. I think it looks pretty good, especially the top of the palm against the sky and over the water water.

      1. Your opinion is pretty far behind the casual (not-a-painter) viewer.

  2. I think you’re actually doing pretty good! I can tell you already had a knack and the talent for it to begin with.

  4. I like those! You are doing a great job. The colors are awesome. Keep going. Did you find a book for acrylic painting? I was able to find a workbook that the paper is specially designed for acrylic paints. Really nice Kim. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much! I have a spiral pad made up of special paper for Acrylics to practice the techniques on. That’s where these pieces came from. When I’m more confident, I’ll do another canvas.

    1. Thank you so much! Your comments are encouraging and I would be happy to paint a small canvas for you if you’d like. So far, most of what I’ve practiced are sunrise or sunset over water and my brother really liked the second one I did that turned out too orange-y. It has palm trees too.
As far as the magnet idea, I think I found a coaster sized Diamond Art project on TEMU that I can attach a magnet to once it’s done. As soon as I get my order, I’ll start on it. ☺️
