The time had finally arrived to get to our site in NC and to meet Anne! As we were leaving the park this morning, I was already texting to let her know we were on our way, lol!
The trip was only supposed to be about 90 minutes, but we had not considered the winding, curvy roads through the mountains, many of which had netting or fences up over the sheer rock faces to keep rocks away from the road. Unfortunately, I never caught a picture because I kept thinking there would be a more optimal shot. It looked like the rocks were under spider webs most of the way through. I did, however, get lots of shots of the mountains and their fading but beautiful colors.

After a quick walk to let everyone stretch their legs and a quick snack, we were back on the road again.
We had no idea what we were about to encounter. There was a detour off of I40 on the way to our RV Park, so it lead us to the curviest, highest route up the mountain side we have ever gone in the bus. I don’t know how we did it while towing the Jeep, I mean, there were some “hairpin” turns that made me grit my teeth. Dave kept his cool, however, and likewise, so did I. After making it through all of that, Siri says, “Take a sharp left” and I just had to say “what were all those we just drove through?” Then I saw it, and again, it looked like we might scrape the guard rail making the turn. Somehow, we did it by the skin of our teeth!
After sighing a breath of relief, we were happy to be back on level ground and soon we were turning into the park. Then came parking our RV. Thank goodness we had an assist, after unhooking the Jeep, Dave backed in and I was following as usual in the Jeep. Some places we get to pull through, but I guess they had none available so here we are, safe and happy with our site.

I like the wooden carving as you enter the park.

Once we got set up, it was all I could do to relax and eat some lunch. I was chomping at the bit to go meet Anne, I didn’t want to wait until tomorrow. So we devised a plan. Dave would take me over, visit a few minutes, then go get some staples at the store, leaving me to hang out with Anne for a while. I have to say, I did tear up when I hugged her for the first time. It was like meeting a favorite aunt I hadn’t seen in years, even though we only know each other through the blogosphere.
Unfortunately, we were so busy chatting and exploring her house, I forgot to take pics. Thank goodness we have at least a week to visit! I will definitely take some in that time. I did take a picture of neighbor Shawn and Bob’s house (Logan’s parents) that he built himself!

It’s a log cabin!
Anyway, we had a wonderful first visit and I’m looking forward to a walk with her tomorrow morning. Both of us are experiencing sciatica problems, so we will take the shorter of her favorite walks. I have to say, it’s is absolutely beautiful here, I can see why she wanted to live here! More pics and stories to follow!
