I’m Just Short, Can’t You Accept That?

What is one question you hate to be asked? Explain.

Why are you so short?

Who said we allowed midgets in here?

I get all this and more being 4’ 9”.

Been short all my life, so why do I get so much grief over it. In the words of Lady Gaga “I was born this way” so get over it.

Some jerk in the resort with the social skills of a third grader asked when we started letting midgets in here the other night. His girlfriend said she would have socked him one, but me being non-confrontational, I just walked away.

My friend found out about it and said my retort should have been “ The same time the started letting a*holes in.” That cracked me up, but I never think that fast.

Everyone has told me all of my life, brush it off, ignore it, etc. Yet sometimes, like the other night, it embarrasses me or rubs me the wrong way.

I spent four and a half years in the service, believe me, I heard it all. Yet most of the time, it was in an endearing way. I had nicknames in Korea, like skoche, which means “little bit” or shortshit, and guys were constantly picking me up and carrying me around. Back then, I was young and silly and thought it was cute. Today, I’d be mortified.

It really sucks when you were the shortest in your own family. The reason is my sire was very short. So no, I’m not a midget, dwarf, or little person.

I’m just short.

Deal with it! I certainly do.

      2. So sorry! I thought you were implying that you had gained wêight. I’ve not read your bio yet, so I wasn’t sure about wether you are a guy or a gal. Didn’t mean to offend if I did!

    1. Yes! I usually brush it right off, but he has proven himself to be a jerk that everyone agrees has no social skills. When he isn’t drinking, he usually very nice.

  6. In different walks of life I feel differently when it comes to the same things. Kids seem to do it more than anyone else to me but that is stare. I used to always make faces at them, but now I really don’t do anything. It doesn’t really bother me but depending on what kind of day I having it may make me sad a little.

    1. I Can understand how you would feel that way. Kids are just curious. They may be wondering why? Why is that lady in a wheelchair because maybe they have never seen that. Smile at them next time!

  7. Add this to the list of things we should accept about people because it’s beyond their control. There’s no excuse for that a-hole’s remarks.

I love your honesty, and I can assure you that the tall ones aren’t better than you in any way.
You’ve accepted it and that’s a really brave thing to do cause I know how I struggled with insecurities of my own until I was able to tell the world “I love myself this way so deal with it.”

If anyone tries to talk down to you because of this pleaseeeee give them their own size because bodyshaming is a really shitty thing to do.
