Our New “Home”

Well, I don’t know what happened. I guess I hit a button that made my toolbar disappear. But its all good now, so here we go!

We came into Colorado and almost immediately saw the mountain range with some snow-capped peaks in the distance. I wondered where our site would be, would we have a view of that or not?

As we drove, the topography changed from feeling like we were in the floor of the Grand Canyon, to pine trees, grassy covered slopes, and of course, the mountains. It was quite the circuitous route from Durango to Echo Basin Rv Ranch, but the good old bus handled it like a pro!

Some scenery out the windshield as we came through New Mexico, with so many different tribal lands, pueblos, and reservation/off-reservation areas. I counted Navajo, Ute, and Jemez Pueblo that I can remember. Being on 550 most of the way, we didn’t see much but desert, cool rock formations, cliffs, mesas, and small towns along the way.

Now we are five mile from Mancos, Colorado at Echo Basin RV Ranch.

The view from our beautiful spot near the pond is lovely and peaceful and we will wake up to this shot out of our bedroom window every day.

After getting set up and having a rest, we walked around a small part of the park. I took some pics. The park is also a wedding venue, so when you see the horse and carriage, that’s part of the wedding going on today. Its also why the Bar/grill/restaurant is closed today. I was all set to eat lunch there when we arrived, but Dave had the calendar and knew it would be closed, but neglected to mention it until I asked if he wanted to eat there. 🤣

I think we are going to like it here. ☺️ Besides the bar and grill, there’s a pool, a few ponds, putting greens, two wedding venues, game nights, (never played group mahjong) , cornhole, pickleball, volleyball, and more!

The pool opens mid-June-Labor Day and the Bar/grill has taco/margarita Thursdays. Date night! Can’t wait to see what it looks like inside…maybe tomorrow. I also can’t wait to get involved in activities and see how receptive they are to new suggestions. The only downside for me is no paved roads. This makes walking difficult for me because the roads are rocky gravel. Dusty too. Makes you think twice about using the shower facilities and the pool.

Nighttime will be cool with temps in the 40’s and 50’s, but that’s fine. I can’t wait to see the night sky here and see how many stars we can see. Dave says we will have another chance soon to see the aurora borealus. That will be worth waiting for!

  1. Would it work to ride your bike to the shower? Maybe graveled roads are not good for bikes, either.

    1. Not yet riding due to my back issues. But yes, if I could get to that point, we have a small shower in the motorhome though, I’ll be fine!
