The Sunday Message

No matter how you feel about politics, yesterday was a horrific example of evil at work.

Our former President, like him or hate him, was a victim of an assassination attempt. There’s literally nothing worse for our nation than to have had that happen.

However, what was your response? Shock, I’m sure was part of it because that is the natural response. But did you respond in a mature way? Did you view the aftermath with a view for eternity, or did you view it with hate or disgust in your heart for the sniper? As hard as it is, we must forgive him, for that is the mature thing to do as a believer in Christ.

We must also be assured that God will deal with him and it isn’t up to us. Do you believe that it was God who saved him? I do! One millimeter of a head turn, and we would be in mourning today, but! God did not let that happen.

Today’s message is that we should view all things with eyes for the eternal. That is what it means to be spiritually mature. As believers we should be teaching, admonishing, and preaching to keep the body of the church healthy.

Pastor John illustrated this with a story of new believers wanting to join the church. He was ready, set, to go until he learned that they were living in sin. As he had them into his office for a chat about it, they told him before he could say anything that another church member had already talked with them about it, and they were planning on getting married right away. This is how the church is supposed to work! All of us working and serving together to keep the health of the church strong. And to take a little weight off the pastor’s shoulders as well.

Please don’t let what happened yesterday keep you divided as a nation. Leave it to God and lets work on ourselves and the health of our church. Lets be mature in our faith, and keep our eyes focused on the eternal and what will be our reward when the struggles of this life are over. Amen.

  1. All my pastor said was that yesterday I sent a horrific day, and as a church he should not use the evil for evil! He gave you the specific Scripture that says it but I cannot remember where it is found. He said something like you said in the last verse of your blog. He did say he had spoken with a couple of other pastors about what they were going to say to the church body morning. I thought what he said was perfect and yes it is horrible what happened. Dad was telling me that an innocent bystander got killed! I told him that no one really mentions that. Still no reason that we should not ask for forgiveness for that 20-year-old boy who made the attempt on the former president and killed the innocent bystander and injuring one other! You are right, that is what we should do! And what I have already done.
