Riding the Train

Monday I mentioned that yesterday we were going to Durango to ride the train for a five-hour trip.

We were delayed by road crews that don’t understand traffic control, which added thirty minutes to the normal thirty minutes trip to Durango. I was scared we’d miss the train, so we were walking as fast as we could. We had no problem boarding the train, as tickets are checked by your phone.

This trip wasn’t the one that goes through Silverton-the must-see trip Judy wanted us to go on, but it was beautiful just the same. It features the Animais River prominently, as well as mountains, rock formations, and evergreens of all species.

I didn’t understand why I was so tired and irritable when we got home, but I didn’t realize how much I stood, walked, and was rocked and rolled on the train. We both were too pooped to pop, and slept soundly all night.

Here is a gallery of the photos I’m pretty proud of considering we were on a moving train! It was wild to be at the end and see the engine around corners, and to look at the car next in line and watch how wildly it rocked side to side. That meant, of course that we were rocking too, even if we didn’t realize it. I gotta say, so glad we were in the open air gondola!

I still haven’t worked out how to make the pictures enlarge once you click on them, but you can enlarge for detail from hear if you like.

Special thanks to Chuck and Sherry for accompanying us on this trip! Friends always make it more fun!

I couldn’t resist letting Dave take me carefully down to the water. I wouldn’t wade in, but did touch with my hand. As expected, it was very cold.

  1. Thanks for sharing the photos! They’re all great, but I love the last one where you can see the train and the bridge structure.

    1. Thanks, Dan! I was hoping you’d see the one with the barn, but I was a bit late taking it. It got partially cut off.
You had to brace yourself while taking the photos because the train was anything but smooth!

  4. Your photos are fantastic. I must have taken a few myself when we rode to Silverton, but they were not memorable like yours.
