Playing with Plants

Yesterday, when everyone else was playing shuffleboard, I decided to practice making a tiny version of an air plant holder using macrame. I know it’s skinnier than what you see on Pinterest photos, but I kind of like the contrast of big plant to small artwork.

The artwork makes like a basket area for the plant to sit in. The knots are simple half square knot, forming a spiral look. I blended a small red twine with a small blue twine to get the desired effect.

Now, I’m ready to tackle the “gig” I’ve been given. Donna, a friend from the resort, asked me to make a plant holder for her daughter. In trade-she offered to make me a wall sconce to put one of my plants in. It will be similar to this piece of jewelry I found on Pinterest.

Thats pretty cute too, now that I think about it!

When I’m in the mood to be creative, I like to make several different kinds of plant holders. Its fun to play with plants and your imagination. Pinterest also gives me a ton of ideas, and I’ve made my own boards-everything from plant holders to recipes.

Its also something I can do when I’m hurting too bad to do anything else. Even when I do, I’m still making it to walking class every day. I don’t miss that at least!

When I get Donna’s daughter’s made, I’ll try to remember to take a picture and share it. I normally make them with rings, not beads, but she said just a basket is fine. If I find large wooden beads in my craft stash, I will use them. I have a tiny crochet hook and/or a wide-eyed plastic needle. That’s what’s needed to get the rope or twine through the bead.

My work will be similar to one of these.

  1. Oh, I love your air plants and holders. I can’t wait to see what you make next. Now you have me wanting to find these great little plants.

Hey, congratulations on the walking. I know what you mean by going anyway. I do that with my stationary bike. And as soon as spring dries a bit our walks continue.

    1. Oh some of them are simple but the macrame ones are a little bit challenging. I don’t ever get too fancy with my wire work, but it ve seen some that look amazing, like a lot of work went into those!
