What’s the story behind your nickname?

The very short story behind my nickname is that I don’t really like my legal name. Its what I got called any time I was in trouble.

My nickname is just a shorter version of my given name, Kimberly. Lots of people have the name, and most probably have the same nickname.

I had other nicknames, shorty, short stuff, midget, etc. that had to do with my stature and worse nicknames that were an abhorrence of my last name (Robicheaux) that I won’t repeat here.

In the military, they dreamed up new nicknames like skoche -that meant “little bit” and that one I took a liking to. I had a satin jacket that was custom made and on it they embroidered the nickname on the front.

It was a beautiful black windbreaker-type jacket that had a dragon embroidered on the back. In time the colors faded and I got rid of it. How I now wish I’d have saved it.

My friends call me Kim and have all my life. My husband rarely calls me by my name. Most of the time he calls me Babe. Or Mama. I call him Daddy most of the time, which used to drive my mother insane. I never called my own dad Daddy. He’s the father of two of my three sons, so I call him Daddy.

I never cared for “Kimmie” -i wasn’t that kind of girl. I was harder somehow. Not mean, just firm in my convictions. I think a name means something, and I hope mine means kindness and caring.

K stands for kindness, but then again, it could also stand for killer. 🤣
