Day 4 of the 30-Day Writing Challenge by Toots

Me in Cozumel

Day 4 of the 30 Day Writing Challenge by Toots is:

“Something that excites you and fills you with joy.”

Well, that something is any chance I get to go on a cruise. I’ve been on two now, I loved both equally for different reasons. My first cruise was with my Sertoma group back when I lived in southeast Texas and was a part of Sertoma (a service group that does fellowship and fundraising for the community). We had a blast and it was so fun as my first cruise ever. The piano bar was just one highlight of the many that marked a fabulous experience. I have so many great memories, with pictures of course. Being on, in, or near the water is what really brings me joy, the cruise brought the excitement. I could go on and on but that cruise was a short one, destination Cozumel. There was more memories made at sea than Cozumel that time, but the highlight of the cruise was getting to swim with the dolphins, a once in a lifetime experience I’m sure!

My second cruise was longer, on a different ship, but with a few of the same people. My best friend since childhood accompanied me, and we made some new memories together. We went to Belize, Honduras, and Cozumel on that one. Oh my, I got to experience snorkeling for the first time in Honduras, I wanted to go again but did not choose that for another excursion. If I ever get to cruise again, I will! I loved it!

Belize was not what I had envisioned, yet I had fun taking in their zoo. Again, if I ever get to go back, I will pick a different excursion, I wanted the tropical paradise. What I got was a long (but entertaining) bus ride through the poverty ravaged country, a trip to the zoo, and some swimming at a strange sort of pool with slides and toys. It was hot as Hades and our time was limited, but we had fun.

Cozumel was a fun-filled day at the beach, now this is what I’m talking about! Drinks in my hand, toes in the sand, hanging out and meeting new people. I hated for it to end. Then we had like an hour to shop run around cashing in our coupons from the book you get on the ship during one of the promotion seminars. We got lots of jewelry and other souvenirs. We saw a fire show. I went to Senior Frogs and had the famous boob shot. What a blast!

Of course we had fun on the ship as well, not the same kind of piano bar this time, but there were games and music around the piano. My friend Kaye seemed to enjoy my Sertoma friends and their spouses, we ate fabulous food, saw wonderful shows…I’d recommend cruising to anyone willing to try it out! Let’s just wait until this coronavirus scare is over with, shall we?

How is everyone on this glorious Tuesday morning?!

Well, I’m not as chipper as I sound, yet thankful I woke up to greet a new day anyway! My sciatica is a literal pain in the arse, haha! Which makes me wonder if I will ever be able to drive again…being my right leg is numb from the foot all the way up to my knee.

I’m a busy gal, I don’t like being sidelined from my activities, so I have been diligent with my stretches, pool exercises, and floor exercises, trying to drive this sciatica away. It all started when I lifted a heavy child at my job and tried to put her in a high chair table like this.

I ended up with a herniated disc, which painfully popped back in last week, right before I went to see the doctor assigned to me by workers comp at Concentra. What remained was this painful sciatica, which I’m desperately trying to remedy now. I did some research on it, and found a few more stretches to try, they will be painful, but hopefully effective. I was supposed to be put on physical therapy, but no one has called yet.

Should I try to drive I wonder? I mean I can walk with a limp, but I drive with my right foot, which is numb, will I be able to feel the pedal well enough? Anyway, the internet also said it could take 6-8 weeks!!! I need knee surgery way sooner than that, I already had to postpone it because of this mess.

The other thing is, I was wanting to go on vacation to Ohio this year to see my granddaughter I’ve not yet met, it’s a very long drive, I hope I’m well and we get the time off to do it. It will depend on lots of things, my health, Dave’s vacation time, whether we get his mom’s estate settled and her house sold. Y ‘all, I could use a prayer here if ya don’t mind. 🙂

Vacation sounds like a luxury to some people, but my hubby REALLY needs a break. So pray I get my body back in shape, that we sell his mom’s house, and that he gets enough time to make the trip happen, because this drive will be very significant. Not only will we visit our granddaughter, Rayven, but an old Marine buddy of Dave’s named Earl, and then on to his cousins in Illinois. Plus, I’ve never been up north anywhere!!

So, with that I am off to pray myself, finish my coffee and contemplate the day’s activities, do my exercises and stretches, ice, heat, and my stupid Prednisone…I’ll be sooooo happy when that’s all gone!!! It make me crazy!!! Love y ‘all, have a wonderful Tuesday!!
