Day 4 of the 30-Day Writing Challenge by Toots

Me in Cozumel

Day 4 of the 30 Day Writing Challenge by Toots is:

“Something that excites you and fills you with joy.”

Well, that something is any chance I get to go on a cruise. I’ve been on two now, I loved both equally for different reasons. My first cruise was with my Sertoma group back when I lived in southeast Texas and was a part of Sertoma (a service group that does fellowship and fundraising for the community). We had a blast and it was so fun as my first cruise ever. The piano bar was just one highlight of the many that marked a fabulous experience. I have so many great memories, with pictures of course. Being on, in, or near the water is what really brings me joy, the cruise brought the excitement. I could go on and on but that cruise was a short one, destination Cozumel. There was more memories made at sea than Cozumel that time, but the highlight of the cruise was getting to swim with the dolphins, a once in a lifetime experience I’m sure!

My second cruise was longer, on a different ship, but with a few of the same people. My best friend since childhood accompanied me, and we made some new memories together. We went to Belize, Honduras, and Cozumel on that one. Oh my, I got to experience snorkeling for the first time in Honduras, I wanted to go again but did not choose that for another excursion. If I ever get to cruise again, I will! I loved it!

Belize was not what I had envisioned, yet I had fun taking in their zoo. Again, if I ever get to go back, I will pick a different excursion, I wanted the tropical paradise. What I got was a long (but entertaining) bus ride through the poverty ravaged country, a trip to the zoo, and some swimming at a strange sort of pool with slides and toys. It was hot as Hades and our time was limited, but we had fun.

Cozumel was a fun-filled day at the beach, now this is what I’m talking about! Drinks in my hand, toes in the sand, hanging out and meeting new people. I hated for it to end. Then we had like an hour to shop run around cashing in our coupons from the book you get on the ship during one of the promotion seminars. We got lots of jewelry and other souvenirs. We saw a fire show. I went to Senior Frogs and had the famous boob shot. What a blast!

Of course we had fun on the ship as well, not the same kind of piano bar this time, but there were games and music around the piano. My friend Kaye seemed to enjoy my Sertoma friends and their spouses, we ate fabulous food, saw wonderful shows…I’d recommend cruising to anyone willing to try it out! Let’s just wait until this coronavirus scare is over with, shall we?
