Word of the Day Challenge
I have a couple of ideas on today’s challenge word.
I think it’s healthy for my brain to keep learning something new, so I don’t berate myself for being addicted to taking online courses. I have gathered lots of knowledge on different subjects this way. For example, I recently finished a course from Coursera called Learning How to Learn and right now I’m taking one on given by Sarah Titus on Making Money From Home. Learning new things keeps our brains functioning on an optimal level, just like eating healthy and exercise does.
This morning I watched a video about how doing 12 specific things can help us REVERSE dementia and also prevent Alzheimer’s Disease. One was to get off of statins. Another was to eat healthy, get off sugar, bread and pasta, all processed foods and eat things found in the perimeter of the grocery store. I knew this already, but getting off of statins and using these particular supplements; CoQ10 and fish oil, was something new for me, therefore I acquired new knowledge on something. In fact, Alzheimer’s runs heavily on my husband’s side of the family, so you can bet I’m going to be making some of these suggestions to him. My friends with diabetes also could benefit from watchin the video, so I’m going to try and share it here, so that whomever has an extra 30-45 minutes can watch it. I am not suggesting you buy his book, but I do think the 12 tips are worth hearing. I only want to help you have a healthy brain, and possibly ward of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
Is that not worth a look to you??
Another book worth reading is Grain Brain, which I bought for my dear hubby but he hasn’t started yet. To his credit, he is eating healthier and exercising daily. He has lost weight and is getting stronger. These are good things, but I’m concerned with keeping his brain healthy as well. I don’t want to lose him to Alzheimer’s like he lost his dad, aunt, and both grandmothers.

I’ll give up processed food and sugar with no problem. But I need chocolate and pasta, even if it’s only once a week.

Ok, but here’s the deal. You need to sub pasta with veggies like zucchini! Dave made us fabulous lasagna yesterday using zucchini in place of the pasta and it tastes great! Or when I make spaghetti, I use zoodles instead of real spaghetti. You can have chocolate. Just has to be dark chocolate, over 75% cacao. I know some great brands and if you think its too bitter, just smear a square with nut butter!! Best snack in the world. I’m so used to dark chocolate now, I can eat 90% cacao chocolate and it tastes sweet to me! Try it and tell me what you think.
Other veggies like spaghetti squash can also be subbed for pasta.
