JusJoJan & WOD 01-31-21 Healthier Candy

When you’re on a low-carb or diabetic diet, candies are usually taboo. And when you can find them, they are so expensive, you’d rather not even bother.

Well, one solution is you can make your own. Those of you who know or follow me have heard me talk about my home made fat bombs; sugar free “healthy” candy. However, I’ve found an affordable, delicious sugar-free candy by champion candy makers, Russell Stover. You will not be disappointed because they have so many varieties, whatever your favorite flavor is, they probably have it covered.

Notice the difference between the sugar-free packaging and the regular candy.

When I first discovered these tasty morsels, there were a couple of flavors like peppermint patties, chocolate covered coconut, and one that’s like a turtle. Now a days, they have changed the sweetener to Stevia, and they are making more flavors than ever. There are knock-offs of Butterfinger, Snickers, Reese’s and of course the old favs, Mounds, and York Peppermint Patties.

Now, that doesn’t mean I no longer make my fat bombs, but when I want a quick, more portable, individually wrapped bit of Heaven, I reach for a Russell Stover treat. They can even be found at dollar store like Dollar General and Green Tree dollar stores. You get less, but hey, in a pinch, not bad! Grocers like Walmart and Kroger also sell big bags of mixed varieties for about $10.

I still recommend restraint when munching on these delicious bites to about two a day at the most, or you might experience some gastric upset. Stevia affects people in different ways. And, just because they are sugar-free, doesn’t mean they are calorie free or carb free. They aren’t keto, but they can be eaten if you’re keeping your carbs low on a regular basis.

Admittedly, I have fallen off the strict keto wagon during the pandemic. So I honestly haven’t cared about anything except having a safer sweet treat when I am trying to behave a bit better. (And/or I’m too lazy to make fat bombs) 🤣😉

PS-I was obviously mistaken yesterday when I said it was the last day for JusJoJan 😁 I was forgetting that January has 31 days, but then again, I haven’t felt well for a couple of days. I have those terrible mouth ulcers again, making eating difficult. Actually, they make me feel kind of yucky all over. I’m guessing that the reason for that is that these ulcers are caused by a virus and they are situated on the sides of the tongue, so far in the back, you feel more like you have a sore throat. Too much gum chewing might have caused them, but I don’t know. I can’t make sense of any of it, I just treat the symptoms and wait for the happy day they disappear 😌

  1. 1st of all, I have tried the big variety bag of Russell Stover’s and they are amazing! They taste the same. And my sugar handles really well with them. I am not a big sweet eater however, I always want something sweet after taking my evening pills to take the taste out. One of my pills is nasty (heart pill, no way around). If I late enough (which I hate and I try not to do) I take my pills before eating my last bite. AnyWho, I had to stop getting the Russel Stovers because they gave me gas so bad. I did not realize that they were made with Stevia. No wonder! I could probably have one every once in a while.

I am so sorry about the ulcers in your mouth. You do not know if it is caused by something particular you are you eating? Or would it be resolved by something you can eat or drink? Like maybe having some hot green tea with honey and lemon with ACV? I drink that like on Mondays and Wednesdays!

    Have a great day!

      • I have not however, I love the Reese knockoff! I haven’t had one in a long time! I do have to give it a try again, but they are hard on the temptation even though they are sugar-free! I am not a real big Snickers fan but I do love their turtles. That was the 1st one I had ever had. The peppermint Patty is also awesome! My favorite is the Reeses!

      • I agree about any of them for being in the fridge! I don’t know what to Christina’s favorite chocolate candy is, but thinking that I should buy her some sugar-free Russell Stover’s for Valentines with a lovely thank you card! I am going to need to order groceries this coming weekend and maybe then I will get some so she is not aware! Even though she is watching her carbs and such she has not been doing strict keto.

  2. No, I just don’t know, and believe me I have tried everything from your suggestion to Maslow and Benadryl. I also rinse with 1/2 peroxide and 1/2 water, I think that clears them up the best! Thanks for your concern, I’m sure these will be gone much quicker than the first time a few weeks ago. Tylenol helps with the pain and overall body malaise, and eating cold stuff helps numb it.
