Longer Walks and Fabulous Dinners

The other day I told you all that we would be taking the shorter version of Anne’s walk, but the last two days, we have walked all the way to the creek, her normal 2 1/2 Mile walk! I have to tell you, she is kicking my butt! I’m so out of practice and shape that I am super sore and she feels fine! She is 18 yrs my senior so don’t I feel ashamed!

Monday night we dined with her at her house and enjoyed a special chicken casserole she normally cooks at Christmas. What a privilege it was to not only taste this but to get the recipe! We also had green peas and tasted some yummy German cookies.

I’ll go back a bit and show you some pictures from Monday’s walk, then discuss tonight’s even more delicious meal prepared by Anne.

Those of you who know Anne, have probably seen many of the walking pics and family pics, but she is famous for her routine walks and family gatherings. You really should follow her blog, her kindness shines through in her words and I felt like I knew her before I every met her. After dinners with Anne, she doesn’t jump up to do the dishes. She prefers to gather in her sitting room and visit! I wish I had done that more when we hosted Sunday dinners, I might have learned more about the kids and their news. Anyway, on to tonight’s meal.

Anne prepared shrimp and grits, a Carolinian favorite, which I never ever tasted before. What a treat! With it we had broccoli and hollandaise sauce. It was delicious and so filling, we couldn’t even consider dessert. No pics of dinner, but I have more from todays walk.

Here are the obligatory selfies to prove we walked to the creek, plus the pic she took of Dave and the dogs when she came over to our place yesterday.

It’s been a glorious two days and we will be here until the 16th! So much more to see, do, and taste! On the menu tomorrow night is chicken and dumplings!

We are not letting her cook for us every night, even though she offered. Surely she will let us cook for her too! More to come, stay tuned!

      1. I’m a ways away from where she is. I’m in Central North Carolina, The Piedmont-Triad area; Winston-Salem.

      2. Well shucks! I’m sure we will come back to the area at some point! From here, we are headed to SC, and then down the coast to possibly Georgia before landing in Fla for the winter. ☺️ I love your new cover photo btw!

  4. Anne makes me smile! I will go check out her blog! And that biew from her bedroom is dreamy! Sitting outside with a cup of Joe in the mornings would be the way to go! If she is offering you not take that away from her. It probably makes her feel good to fix the both of you! And chicken and dumplings, I would be all up in that groobe!!
