Two Scares in One Week is All I Can Handle!

So, before I launch into my explanation, let’s tackle Linda G Hill’s prompt for today:
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “inner/outer.” Use one, use both, use ’em any way you’d like. Bonus points if you use both. Enjoy!

So, let’s back up for a second while I take you to Sunday afternoon or was it Monday morning? Anyhoo, Shari-Joshua’s (wife if they still lived in Texas due to common law rules) told me he was in the hospital. Actually, he called first but got put out with me quick because he didn’t feel good, so she told me he was bleeding internally, that she got him there just in time because his hemoglobin was a 2!!
I am so grateful to her and to God for seeing to it that he remains on this earth. What I don’t understand are the inner workings of his mind. Why, I asked him, are you pissy instead of being grateful? Well, I didn’t get that answered until he was at home, safe in his own environment. Seems he was irate at being denied his vices while in the hospital (go figure) so he was a bit of an a** to everyone, including the nurses!
That in itself made me irate, and I decided right then and there that it would not be a good idea if I was there. Believe me, I toyed with the idea of making a trip to Ohio but decided to wait and watch. Good call. His attitude continued to suck, so I spoke exclusively with Shari about his progress. The good news is, no ulcers bleeding or otherwise. The bad news, he has a massive hemorrhoid on or near his colon which will need to be removed surgically. I found out last night that it has been scheduled, praise God.

Evidently, Dave’s firstborn and the love of his (Dave’s) mother’s life has been bleeding (and knew it for six years!!!) This blew my peanut brain and I asked her how this could be. Then I wanted to know if the fact that he needed four bags of blood and one bag of platelets was all due to the aforementioned and she said no, apparently it was a slow bleed over those six years that made him more than a quart low. 😳
In short, he is so lucky to be alive and amen, God really does answer prayers!
Now let’s move on to scare number two.
The day I heard Josh was home, I was taking the dogs out to potty after they ate and Whiskey was acting weird. Panting heavily, she would take a few steps and plop down. Take a few more steps and fall over. I asked her if she was ok, and she looked up panting her brains out. I immediately called Dave and told him I was off with her to the vet. He looked her over, noted her horrendous teeth, and proclaimed that she needed to be tested for Cushing’s disease. Not that it has anything to do with her teeth, that’s unrelated. She was born with bad teeth, kinda like me.
So, I had to take her back the next morning for an all-day test for Cushing’s and we will find out end of next week what the results are. Poor baby. She has about half of the symptoms. Pot belly, check. Thirsty all the time, check. Excessive panting, yep. The breath is from her bad teeth ( 13 have already been removed) and now he wants to take the rest out. That will keep. The Cushings testing was very expensive and pulling her teeth is 3x more expensive.
Her breath isn’t half as bad now that we home make their food. And, they don’t itch half as much as they used to. Dogs maintenance is just spendy. They need to be groomed, fed, and medically managed. $$$$ It all adds up, but we do it because they are like family. She is mine and I will take care of her until she crosses the rainbow bridge.
In outer, I mean other news, Dave and I have a 🔥 date tonight, so I need to be ready to go, so I’m done with this stream for now. 😉
