JusJoJan 1-9-24 Favorite Pastimes

Today we are tasked with this prompt from the amazing Linda G Hill.

One of my favorite pastimes is reading. I’ve been a voracious reader since the age of 12 and was reading way above my level according to school tests.

Every morning I scour my emails and read all the blogs by the folks I follow, and more if I see new ones that catch my eye, or am prompted to. That’s part of this month’s challenge after all.

Then I read my two favorite newsletters, The Morning Brew, and 1440 Daily Digest. This morning, the latter provided so many interesting articles, I felt I must share some with all of you, starting with an urgent need by The Red Cross for all able bodied, healthy people to please donate blood. They are experiencing critical shortages. My aim with this blog has been to help people in one way or another, so I’m begging you to consider doing this. They need all blood types, so please, find it in your heart to make an effort asap!

The second interesting story was about a cool 1960’s home made of rocks and glass. It made me think of what it might be like to live inside a honeycomb. Check it out here.

The third was an article about how a new exosuit helps people with Parkinson’s Disease. Had my dad lived long enough, this might have helped him. Maybe it will help others.

Lastly on the list, how about a mouse found to be tidying up a man’s shed! And this wasn’t the only time a mouse has been observed carrying on this behavior!

You can find wonderful and interesting stories like these daily on 1440 Daily Digest in addition to their daily famous quote. Today’s quote is short and sweet by Joan Baez:

”Action is the antidote to despair.”

I feel like I have taken action with this post today, and I hope it not only entertained you, but helped someone in the process.

PS: Please let me know if you can see all the links I’ve provided in this post. If not, I’m going to have to do like Dan did and change my theme so that they will show up! Thank you in advance!

PSS: One more note I want to share to all the writers out there. Since one of my New Year’s resolutions is to write more pieces that may or may not result in a monetary reward, I want to share an online magazine currently accepting new submissions until Jan 15 called 34 Orchard. I’m trying to write a dark story myself for submission, I’ll keep you posted! You can find this magazine and other publications that have open submission windows here. I’ve been using Freedom With Writing for years as a reliable source.

    1. Oh, they are there, they just aren’t showing up! They are very faint lines under certain words I pointed out in the text.

  4. I enjoyed the photos of the stone and bottle house when I read 1440 this morning. To me the most amusing was the bathroom.

The exosuit is exciting. A relative has just been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. I’m wondering how soon it might be available to the general public.

    1. I’m sure they’ll have to do more tests first. But it is exciting!

      2. Good deal! I still the ink I need a new background color, or maybe even a new theme! I will look around at different ones to see what changes I can make.
