I Won!!

Finally! I can claim a win at Mahjong! Not just on the computer but with real people! Then, I thought it had happened again, but I made a mistake and my hand was dead. Live and learn, right?!

It’s a hard game to learn but totally satisfying when you win because that means you’re getting it! If you like gin rummy, you would like this game. Learning the symbols and the hands are what’s hard.

Are there any Mahjong players reading?

If not, you have suits, but they are cracks, dots, bams, flowers, and dragons. Oh, and jokers-which in some sets are “lucky you’s”. You must play with the card for that year. And, we play American Mahjong, but there is Chinese mahjong as well. There are about 50 possible hands on this year’s card.

If it wasn’t illegal to show you my card, I would. However, I can show you an image of a lovely set of Mahjong tiles.

This particular set is expensive, but there are more affordable sets available. This one retails at $255!

Whew! That is probably clear as mud. If you want to learn, there are you tube videos and books available and/or you can play on the computer for a small fee.

I’m not sure who purchased the sets we play with, but we have enough to have two tables to play. I’m not totally invested, I just pay the small fee to play my four free games on the computer a day as practice for the two live game days per week. If I knew I’d find other players in other places we stay, I’d buy the things I need.

For now, I’m happy learning and playing the game while I’m here, and I’ll relish my win for the rest of the day!

Have a great Thursday!

(We just got through getting ready for another thunderstorm to roll in. David had just put the awning out and we had to go put it and our chairs up. I like seeing the rain, because it cuts down on the dust. ☺️)

  1. Congratulations on the Mahjong win and I envy you. I live in Southern California thunderstorms are extreme rarity here.

I saw plenty of them when I lived in Arizona and Texas, but California almost never gets Southern California. I’m jealous.

    1. I wish I could send you some, but knowing California, it would be something extreme and you don’t want that!

  2. I’m glad you are enjoying the game and thrilled that you won. I can’t seem to get interested in it.

    1. I never did sit through a video, I think you learn more playing the game. Maybe if I can find a reasonable set, I’ll buy one and try to teach you. 😁

      1. The only games I enjoy are word games, so it’s probably hopeless to try to teach me.

  3. One of my closest friends is Korean & Jewish, and her Korean mom loves Mahjong! She has a women’s group she plays with and they’re all competitive!

I tip my hat off to you because to me, it just looks too busy for me to catch on to and enjoy.

    Congratulations on the win! 🎉🎊🥳

    1. Thanks, Tre! Once you get it, its not that hard. ☺️ I will have to find my “tribe” at each place we go, lol! If not, I play the games that are popular in that park. No biggie!

  4. Congratulations! Now that I’m home I can go check out a few tutorials. Any site you found especially helpful?

We had beautiful weather the whole time I was in Washington but now that we left I hear it is raining.

Here we are back in fire weather. Ugh. Dry and hot. There is a fire with my name. It is actually a street that my son and I got list on a long time ago. No. Not named after me. Before me!😀😂

      2. It’s a lot like gin rummy because you have to make hands with suits.
