Finally! I can claim a win at Mahjong! Not just on the computer but with real people! Then, I thought it had happened again, but I made a mistake and my hand was dead. Live and learn, right?!
It’s a hard game to learn but totally satisfying when you win because that means you’re getting it! If you like gin rummy, you would like this game. Learning the symbols and the hands are what’s hard.
Are there any Mahjong players reading?
If not, you have suits, but they are cracks, dots, bams, flowers, and dragons. Oh, and jokers-which in some sets are “lucky you’s”. You must play with the card for that year. And, we play American Mahjong, but there is Chinese mahjong as well. There are about 50 possible hands on this year’s card.
If it wasn’t illegal to show you my card, I would. However, I can show you an image of a lovely set of Mahjong tiles.

Whew! That is probably clear as mud. If you want to learn, there are you tube videos and books available and/or you can play on the computer for a small fee.
I’m not sure who purchased the sets we play with, but we have enough to have two tables to play. I’m not totally invested, I just pay the small fee to play my four free games on the computer a day as practice for the two live game days per week. If I knew I’d find other players in other places we stay, I’d buy the things I need.
For now, I’m happy learning and playing the game while I’m here, and I’ll relish my win for the rest of the day!
Have a great Thursday!
(We just got through getting ready for another thunderstorm to roll in. David had just put the awning out and we had to go put it and our chairs up. I like seeing the rain, because it cuts down on the dust. ☺️)
