God Provides a Way

As I was wrapping up First Corinthians in my Bible study, I learned something I’d never heard before and after the hat a game-changer it is!

You may have heard all of your life about tithing. Its an instant turn off to newcomers to any church if that church is more focused on the money theyre making instead of the souls they are saving.

Well, Steven Armstrong teaches the Verse by Verse lessons I’ve been studying and he said in the last verse of Corinthians that no where in the Bible is the word tithe.

What about the 10% rule? Haven’t you always heard that you are supposed to tithe ten percent of your income to the church? I have. Everywhere I’ve been, except my brother’s Bible Church. Anyway, Steven teaches that is also a misconception.

What’s better, he said, is to put a certain amount of your choosing into a separate account, so that when you feel compelled to give a gift, help a mission, or whatever it might be, you can then give what you feel called to, even if its a lot more. Say you want to help with some church renovation. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful to be able to give $5000.00 instead of $5?

If you want to save ten percent of your earnings, that’s fine. There is no set amount.

How freeing us this news? Maybe many of you already know this, but I had never heard it until two days ago when I heard this lesson.

Now I’m moving into 2 Corinthians and Steven did not do a study on this book but my husband knew someone who did, so I looked him up and joined his study group today! The Lord provides a way!

PS: I’m having to work from the library today because we have no cellular connection, no internet connection. I still cannot take care of very necessary business with the VA because I cannot access the portal. Therefore, until this problem is solved, I cannot order my much-needed medication, and I may miss my appointment via telephone due to a cell tower being down in this area. See, to sign in to the portal, they have to send me a text via my phone. Hard to do because I can’t make or receive texts or phone calls.

Pray the problem gets resolved quickly because this is all bad. I will pray also! 🙏

Now I can show you the pics from lunch with the Echo Basin friends that wouldn’t load the other day.

  1. tithing was a ROMAN policy of taxation…either pay 10% of every monthly income over a year’s period of time, or pay in full annually. The only “Christian” organization that teaches tithing is the Roam Catholic…the protestant churches didn’t start it until good old Henry the eighth needed more taxes and the church (Anglican Catholic or Church of England) demanded the people pay something to offset those taxes. Now it is an entirely voluntary thing with a “plate” being passed from person to person during a church service.

    1. True, but I still like the idea of starting a separate account for “giving” so you can give more when it counts than feeling obligated to give a certain amount on a weekly basis. Of course, giving is the point! The beauty of it is we have a choice.

  3. I totally agree with the last comment about just being all of your trust in God alone, because that is where the truth is!

I have heard about tithing in the Bible along with giving 10%. However not completely sure if it has ever been a must. I do give a “tithe” every month to my church. It is not 10%, but it is what I feel able to do. I feel so grateful to be able to do this, as it helps to grow the kingdom of God! I do give more when I can for example, we just had a back-to-school drive and I sponsored a student to give them a backpack and lots of other things they need! So grateful to get to this! To God the glory!

    1. Absolutely! I need to start a savings account for God so that next time Kevin’s church has a special need, I can send something more substantial.

      1. Love is a good idea! Let me just say “tithe” is a word that I cannot believe I used. My church does not use it they call it “giving” that is what I am doing. When I give extra that is my “donation.” It just all depends on how you want to say it. We have grown up going places where they still use the word tithe. That is all in think of as to why I said it. You know how sore okay to say at one time maybe not for the next. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.. Proverbs 3:5

      2. That’s true, and that’s the word more churches should adopt is “giving” or donation.
