Axe to Grind

Yesterday was a new experience for the both of us. Gary and Tammi picked us up and we drove to Loveland to throw axes at a perfectly good target.

I came away with some souvenirs and a few sore muscles but it was fun nonetheless.

Bullseye for David!
Good form, Gary!

David and Gary soon got in their rhythm but Tammi and I struggled a bit. She landed a lot more than me, but the victory for me was landing any at all!

I actually hit the target!

I didn’t think I’d ever reach the target, even though I moved up to the closest line. Finally, after much patience and coaching tips from Gary and Tammi, I landed my first three pointer.

David bought me a t-shirt and we all had a coozie, but I ended up with all of them. Gary said they had tons of them already. They say Axe to Grind, the name of the venue. Its an expensive hobby (like all hobbies) but fun for a once in a while thing to do.

After that, we went to Henry’s pub for a delicious, memorable dinner! We had appetizers of calamari and cheese curds, (another first on the latter) so by the time our meals came, we were stuffed. The menu offered too much to choose from, so I settled on a salad with spring mix, candied pecans, gorgonzola, cranberries and a pecan vinaigrette.

The fried apps had filled me up and the chips and dip we had at Axe to Grind also had a hand in that. David had half of his Rueben before quitting. As full as we were, we made room for one bread pudding a la mode, that we all shared bites of. Stuffed now to the brim!

Gary paid for axe throwing so Dave picked up dinner and drinks and everyone left feeling stuffed and satisfied. After dinner we drove back to the lake to scout elk, but it grew dark quickly and we called it a night. We saw lots and lots of deer, but no elk. They are elusive.

I think today, we are going to Gary’s house to have a nice relaxing visit. Monday we will have to ourselves with everyone back at work, so we may go to Estes Park before we are off again come Tuesday!
