When Is Your Writing Cathartic?

Happy Mercoles everyone!

When is your writing cathartic for you? What subjects give you that emotional release?

I find that writing about my mom and our relationship, or talking about how much I miss her, is when it’s cathartic for me. Also, my kids and our relationship. So maybe for me it has to be that personal connection. I’ve written pieces that have made me cry when I looked back on them. Others that have made me angry, made me laugh, or made me remember a specific time in my life.

I should draw on this more, before writing starts feeling like a chore.

What about you? Does just the act of writing something provide that cathartic release? Or do you also feel like you need that personal connection? Tell me in the comments!
