JusJoJan – Rock Variety

Good morning all!

I’ve had a nasty head cold for a couple of days, and I’m happy to report that I’m feeling (but not sounding) much better today!

It’s time to tackle Linda’s prompt, brought to us by John Holton, which you can find here.

Since I couldn’t think of anything on my own for today’s prompt, I decided to share with you something I read today from my rock hounder’s newsletter.

This morning they featured some varieties of rocks that look so good, you want to eat them! Can you imagine??

Feast your eyes on this, the very first “food table” made of nothing but rocks.

Everything on the plates are different types of rocks, from Apache tears to fossilized shark vertebrae. Even the ham, the butter, and the tea in the cups are a variety of rock! The “ham” is petrified wood, and the “oatmeal cookie “ is a shark vertebre.

The idea was the brainchild of Bill and Lois Patillo who had visited the Gem and Mineral Show in Portland, Oregon who saw a display of rocks that looked like foods. I can’t share the photo for some reason. May be copyrighted or something. Anyway, in 1983, they brought their own spin to the idea in what was formerly called The Gulf Coast Gem and Mineral Show. Let’s see if I can share the picture of their “food” table resembling desserts.

Yea! They shared their Food Table at different rock shows after friends donated samples to make the table complete. I love the box of candy made to resemble Whitman’s famous chocolates!

I’ve only been to one rock and gem show myself, (in Houston) but I didn’t see a “food table”. You can bet if I ever get another chance, I’ll be going and when I do, I’ll take pics if it features this cool idea!

  1. I’m not sure if you know this, and maybe it might just be me, but in the Reader, your images will not show. I had to go directly to the site and view them from there.

I guess WordPress is glitchy tonight.
