JJJ-1-20-25-Population 11

Thank you to the lovely Linda G Hill who accepted my prompt word for today’s post.

So I was watching this show on Prime or Paramount, one or the other called Population 11, a bit of mystery and humor mixed together and the series (one season) is based in a tiny town in Australia.

Movie poster.

What struck me was their antipodean way of speaking, where everything they say sounds like a question? Have you ever noticed that?

Watch any show featuring Austrailians, or New Zealanders and see if you don’t notice it yourself.

The story is about a young man in trouble who travels to Australia from the US in search of his father, who has gone missing. Solving this mystery takes the entire series to solve, the ending much of what you’ve come to expect, is not as good as the search and it’s process.

Still, I think its worth a go, just to see these talented but mostly unknown stars shine. Australians all strike me as rather tongue-in-cheek, like everything they say is funny, yet puzzling at the same time. Remember the famous movie Crocodile Dundee?

    2. You’re very welcome and again, may I suggest Love Actually if you’ve never seen it. Population 11 was ok, but I want a real love story over mystery. I love the humor in both these suggestions though. The English as well as the Aussies seem to have that in common!

  2. One of my closet friends is originally from New Zealand but lived in Australia for years, I love listening to her speak. And yes, she says a lot of statements that come off as if she’s asking me a question, but she’s just making a comment or statement. Lol. And she’s blunt to a fault. I love it!

    1. How very cool! I love hearing stories and watching shows featuring people from one or the other country. My favorite artist is from Tasmania, but I still haven’t heard her speak yet. She is also in Word Press!

    2. Yes, its part of their humor I think…their bluntness. I also love, love the movie Love Actually, which we watch together every Christmas season sinece the year we saw it in the theater with our youngest. One of the best love stories ever!

  3. Hi Kim thanks for a great prompt! I went for music yesterday with it.

Yes Antipodeans do end their sentences on an up …as do a lot of young people over here I the UK. I like Australian soaps …the bluntness and joiness I reckon comes from living in a young country. 🤫💜💜

    1. Yes! When my son’s former girlfriend came back from England, she talked that way for a long time. It must have had a real influence on her.
