Buenos Dias everyone!

I have just finished reading “The Book Thief” and I have never read anything by Markus Zusak before, now I’m hooked! I immediately upon finishing went back to the beginning to look up the German word they called her and the loose translation is Pig, yet her foster mother called her that with affection. The word was saumenche and another that got tossed around was saurkel, both profanities, which was the norm in Rosa’s house.

His writing isn’t exactly grandiloquent, yet it was so different and the way he expresses things like colors and feelings, his writing style, it was all addicting and I wanted more. I could read the book again, but I just downloaded a sample of the next book they suggested by him as soon as I finished this one. The next one is called “Bridge of Clay” and I’ve already read an excerpt and the first few pages this morning. What an amazing storyteller this man is! As you may or may not know, I get most of my books from the library through my Libby app. I can borrow, return, and place holds on books all from the comfort of my home.

At the end of The Book Thief, you are treated to his writing process, which I ate up like some delicious meal. It makes so much sense to organize your thoughts the way he does. Maybe I can someday write a book using his method! I don’t want to give anything away, but the story is set during the time of Hitler, in a small German town (Molching). The book is not at all like “The Diary of Anne Frank”, yet features a young girl growing up with her foster parents. The main characters are Leisel, Rudy, Rosa, Hans, and Max. There is a surprise narrator, I’ll let you figure that one out for yourself, I’ll not spoil it for you.

Well, I’m off to practice my typing and grammar, I’m still not up to speed and my horrendous mistakes with the comma continue. Grammar Monster is a big help, and of course I’m taking copious notes.
