Writing Prompts

SoCS 05-22-21 & WOD Challenge

Let’s see how I can use Linda G Hill’s SoCS prompt- Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “roc.” Find a word with “roc” in it or use it as a word all by itself. Enjoy! -as well as the Word of the Day Challenge word, “blush.”

Well, let’s see. Everyone who knows me well, knows that I love rock music. I mean, how many 60 year old rockers – hard rockers – do you know? Anyway, my love affair started when I was around 12 with the music of Led Zeppelin and Steven Tyler’s band, Aerosmith. I still love their music today, however, my tastes have morphed and grown with the music as it has changed and become more metal, more guttural and sometimes downright angry. I have to be in a particular mood for that, though, and the older I get, the less I like screaming. Sing please, but do it with some feeling!

Seeing Steven Tyler, or Robert Plant was enough to make me blush when I was a teenager, such a big crush I had on the men and the music. Then Peter Frampton came along and I still remember getting the giant poster from Frampton Comes Alive, plastering on my bedroom wall, and Mom coming in and playfully feigning fright at the ginormous, long-haired, handsome man adorning my wall. I don’t remember what I said, but I defended my love for rock and never let her or anyone else influence what I was going to listen to.

All three of these bands also made me blush with their sexy lyrics since I was a very sheltered teenager. Many of the lyrics I pretended to not understand, telling my parents I only loved the song because of the music, but that was a fib. They all had that bad boy persona, and I was in love. Thank God my husband came along in my early twenties to save me from myself and my horrible choices in men, or I might have ended up with a very different life, lol.
As I grew, my taste in rock music expanded and my favorites changed. I explored Southern Rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Outlaws and more, and when I had kids, I didn’t want to be out of touch with modern rock, so I kept listening to rock stations, buying rock cds, reading books, seeing movies, and now I have a very rounded taste in music. I knew everything from the lyrics to who was in the bands, and their kids names, lol! My dream was to someday be up on stage with the likes of Joan Jett and Heart, but alas, that never happened. I drew album covers, doodled on my school book covers, I mean, I was obsessed! And I still love it, all of it.

This coming September, my friend Michelle and I will be celebrating our birthdays late at the concert we were cheated out of due to corona and will be rocking along with Korn and Staind (different bands than the original tickets) and probably blushing in the heat….but at least we won’t be on the grass. 😉
