SoCS-Almost in a Jam

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “jam.’” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

There we were last night, walking the dogs as usual after their dinner, when I struck the edge of a curb, propelling me forward, but thankful I didn’t fall on my face.

Afterward, my legs felt numb, like they might go out from under me, so I sat in a nearby picnic table. After a minute or so, I tested them out and slowly made my way home, one of the dogs still attached to my hand by her leash. A little later, I sneezed and leaked a little, which also scared me under the circumstances, but after a rest, I felt ok.

This morning I was sore, yet pushed myself to act as normally as possible. I went to coffee and donuts and had a cup of coffee. We sat around visiting with friends as usual, then went for a walk around camp. Later, I took another, my right foot going numb like it has been for about a week now.

Later this afternoon, I got in the pool and kicked around on my noodle, like I do most every day, and that really felt good. I had a shower, walked over to Lisa’s because she offered to set my hair for church tomorrow. My back felt fine, however, my calves are a bit sore. Whether from the jolt to my back or the squats I shouldn’t have done yesterday, I’m not sure.

Either way, I was scared to death after said jolt, because one false move like that could actually leave me paralyzed. I was a little miffed at Dave’s apparent lack of concern, but I’m so grateful that I didn’t get myself in bad jam. That not only would have ended this lifestyle, but changed our lives forever.

I’m thinking it might be something I need to report to my care team while we are still in Florida, just in case. The feet going numb, especially during exercise, is kind of concerning. I just want to make sure they don’t think I’m overdoing it. I’ve been back at my daily stretching for at least a week too, which I need to stay consistent with.

That’s it for now! Have a good weekend everyone!

    1. Me either. I will try to be more careful! I’m 64 and just walking is difficult lately, much less walking the dogs. But I have good days and bad. Today is a bad day, so I probably need to move around more…carefully!

      1. Do be careful..after doing extensive gardening a little over a year ago I haven’t been able to stand up stright..when extremely pain started ai went to Er thinking sciatic but x-ray showed a spinal curve they said had always been there..I’m not buying that ..any way..they said at my age surgery wasn’t recomended (80) so now no pain but using a rolling walker..life has changed and bring by myself since my husband passed I really don’t have choice except to be careful.

      2. Yes, its sad, but there comes that day for all of us that we have to realize our limitations. Listen to your gut, and please be careful!

  2. Please take care of yourself. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious. But numbing of the feet could be a lot of things. 🙏🏾🩵

    1. Yeah, I know and being her only two more weeks means it may be hard to get seen right away. The VA hospital where I get treatment when we are here is 30 minutes away, so I like to make sure I really need to go before we make the trip. In other words, I hate to make a fuss unless its truly necessary.

      1. Ahh, it’s good to catch these things, though, before that fuss ends up being something that’s bigger than you can handle. But you must do what you must, based on your situation. I hope it gets better soon.

      2. Thanks, Tre. The pain doctor said that the numbness is just part of the deal and in time my meds should help. I don’t believe that either, but know I just have to keep moving no matter what. I did my exercise class this morning on numb feet, I just didn’t go all out like normal.

    1. I appreciate it, Anne. I try to be, but things happen. I just need to pay better attention to what I’m doing.

    1. Thanks, Dan. My morning workout today felt better than it has in a while. No feet numbing and plenty of energy. Maybe because of the temporary liquid diet I’m on? (IBS flare)

  6. I’m so sorry you fell!!!!! Are you okay now?

    1. Oh its ok, I didn’t fall. It just jarred my back and scared me, making me feel for a while like my legs were going out from under me. That and going numb while walking are just parts of this nerve situation I guess.

      1. Sometines that hurts just as bad as a fall. I’ve had back problems since I was 18 years old and a simple jarring can take me right out. I’m no good for two weeks.
I’m glad that you didn’t fall. Were you able to see your doctor?

      2. No, but I told him m about it. I think they are beyond helping me outside the next step or managing my meds.
