Since the Ocean is No Longer an Option
What does your ideal home look like?
So I would have answered this prompt totally different a couple of years ago. However, since spending a summer in Port Aransas two years ago, we’ve changed our minds. Yes, it was our collective dream to live at the coast for our entire marriage, but with the upswing of hurricanes every year, the expensive insurance it would take to live there, we’ve decided that our body of water will be a calm lake.
There was also nowhere to go once the tourists started coming from Thursday to Sunday, so we could never live there like we once dreamed we could. The expense of housing is also a factor.
Now we have decided the only way to live near the water is to find a lake house somewhere. But where, we don’t know. David is looking all over at house prices, but the market is still high. So we wait. But to answer the question, my ideal house would be a simple cottage by a lake, with a covered space for my motorhome, and a wraparound porch! Ideally, it would have one and a half baths, and be beautifully landscaped, so I don’t have to spend all my time working in the yard.
After living in the motorhome, I realize that I don’t need a lot of stuff and I’m perfectly happy in a small space as long as I have an area to craft. Here at parks, I can spread out in the common space. In our home, we have a tiny table just big enough for the two of us to eat a meal.

Dave does not want to live in a tiny home, yet he agrees that we don’t need a ton of junk anymore. However, we do have stuff in storage that we will be bringing into our new home, provided its bug and rodent free!! We will need furniture in the new home after all.
If it is God’s will that we live in Texas, that’s fine as long as we end up in east Tx near the place we used to live. I felt like I was in paradise there. But we don’t want to be that close to the coast, just close enough to visit once in a while. We have seen a few houses on a couple of different lakes that look like they would fit the bill, but we aren’t ready yet.
As long as my health holds up, we are planning one more trip before beginning a house search…back to Arizona for the winter. The new place will also need to be near a VA hospital so I can get the care I need. Then again, by the time we get another house, I will be 65 and eligible for medicare, so it may not be necessary.
So much to consider in that prompt question. 😊
