I’m Guilty

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “pitch.” Use it as a noun, use it as a verb, use it way you’d like. Have fun!

As writers, we are encouraged to send in a pitch before the editor will consider publishing our stories. This, I never learned and is the least liked part of the process.

So, I just don’t do it.

I know, I know, what am I afraid of?

Rejection before submitting, that’s what. However, if I learned how to do it, maybe all my stories I’ve sent in wouldn’t have been rejected in the end!

Instead, my habit has been to seek out pubs that don’t require a pitch. All you have to do it write your piece and send it in, following all the submission requirements.

I also never pay for critiques, which would be extremely helpful.

The only places I’ve been published is where I’ve been allowed to write in my own voice.

Take Therapeutic Thymes, a magazine I’ve had many articles in. My pieces are based on my own experiences, so they were accepted and I was even paid!

Same for RVAdventures.

None of my “made up” stories have except for pubs on Medium and Substack.

Maybe I just don’t want my writing to feel like a job.

Yeah, let’s go with that. 😜
