SoCS -Bake

Happy Saturday my peeps! Time once again to get our stream on. The lovely, Linda G Hill, hostess with the mostess, says to use “bake” as a noun, verb, or any way we like.

I remember Christmas’s past when my best bud, Kaye, and I would get together and bake cookies and other treats for Christmas. We might have done it while drinking…ok, you got me!

I miss that. I miss the interaction, the joy of friendship and fostering each other’s creativity. I miss doing something traditional with a friend. That’s the main downside to this lifestyle, not hanging out with family or friends at the holidays. But I remind myself that we chose this. It’s our own fault.

Anyhoo, our little “easy bake oven” sized RV oven isn’t really conducive to baking. I mean, you can but it’s different and I haven’t mastered it. Food and ingredients cost too much to waste on a bad attempt at making baked goods, so we don’t do much more in it than heat up frozen pizza.

Besides, Dave is the main cook around here, especially right now while I’m hobbled. He’s not much of a baker but he can cook anything! If I asked, he would try it. Heck, he even figured out how to bake biscuits in the electric skillet!

So, in conclusion, unless you want a store-bought treat from me, don’t count on me baking cookies this year. Maybe someday I’ll have this little oven figured out, but for now, the supermarket or bakery will have to suffice!

  1. I keep wanting to bake Christmas cookies, too, but I find that I just don’t have it in me right now. What a lovely tradition you and Kaye had. 🙂 I think it would be more fun if the experience is shared.

    1. It truly was! It’s been too many years of not doing it, but we lived an hour away from each other so that made it difficult. Now we are even farther away!

  2. Oh, i think your loved ones will undestand and not ask too much of you. And if they don’t, that’s okay, too. Enjoy this holiday season as much as you can!

  5. It’s the thought that counts. If you bring me cookies, I’m not going to ask, even if they’re still in the bag.

    1. N recipe, Anne. He just figured out how to cook canned biscuits in the skillet instead of heating up the RV with the oven. 😉

    1. If they are like the kind I tasted, they are a treat!! We have an ALDIs close by, that’s an idea!

      1. Aldi’s has the marvelous German Christmas cookies that I love so much. I didn’t grow up with these, but they are habit-forming.

      2. I wish I was in shape to shop, but that’s not in the cards for me unless it’s online. I’m getting closer to getting treatment, I got my MRI results last night but until I get Ft Worth to do a traveling veteran consult, I can’t get seen at the VA here unless u go back to the er dept. which I’m going to do, because I’ve been waiting two days for Ft Worth to call me.
