Emotional Baby

SoCS

n response to Linda’s / Dan’s Stream of Consciousness SoCS for Aug 15, 2026

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “Bald, Balled, Bawled” Use one. Use two or use them all any way you’d like

A picture of me holding my new license.

One look at me and you can tell I’ve got thin hair. I’ve tried it all, taken it all, bought wigs, hats, barrettes….the list goes on. I might be bald someday and almost past the point of caring. I’ve spent months healing and growing my hair and for what? Once it’s this long, being so thin, I can curl it and ten minutes later it’s flat. It just hangs there limp as a noodle.

I’ve bowled over it but then again, I’m emotional. I cry at the drop of a hat. I can cry over a Hallmark commercial and definitely a movie, a song in church can move me to tears easily. Someone tells me ( or I read) a sad or touching story and tears spring like a leaky faucet.

The feeling is not back in my hand yet, so I might tell you I balled up my fist and punched a doctor but that would be a dub. It’s been over two weeks and still not one thing has been ordered! No injection. No physical therapy. Nerve test end of next month!

I’m going to sound conspiratorial, yet I believe the delay is because they found out I’m on Medicare. Well, when they thought I just had insurance (top-tier BCBS) my procedures were ordered immediately, so what else should I surmise? I have literally called the office 3 times now and asked why my physical therapy hasn’t been ordered and the supposed reason is the PA never noted it on the chart! The third time I called I let em have it but nothing has been done yet.

Whether I’m frustrated with my hair or the state of my condition, one way to deal with it is to draw. I tried with my left hand and it was horrible, so I tried a few days ago and had ok results. See this magic -but slightly wonky- mushroom.

I forget to sign them. She’s not perfect but I love her!

Let me clarify: I drew this with my right hand. It’s numb but it still works.

    1. Thanks, Anne! It’s not all bad and for some reason, when I’m at church, before the service when getting all my friends, I don’t even think about it. I’m feeling much better is my answer when they ask.

  4. I liked reading your post and that mushroom is beautiful. My daughter’s mother-in-law has thinning hair and it upset her. A few years ago she bought a wig . Her sons advised her. She wears only when she goes out.

    1. Yes, I understand that. I still have my wig in case I get to that point again. It didn’t look bad, it just wasn’t the real me, I always felt like an imposter when I wore it.
